Default windows xp embedded

Is it possible to remove Windows XP Embedded off a POS machine? Someone gave my friend a computer and it came with it. We looked it up on the internet and it is a POS. I think they use those in businesses like fast food chains and whatnot. We tried installing Win XP on it but it wouldn't take. So, can you totally wipe WinXP Embedded from a POS? Can it be used it as a reg. computer and have Win XP installed?

Hello Fay and welcome to PC help Forum.

Firstly did you enter BIOS/Setup and set first boot to CD/DVD rom put in disk and save and exit F10?

You may have to remove drive and fit as a slave to another computer and format it to a storage device then replace into origonal computer then eneter BIOS and set first boot put in disk save and exit?

What does that mean format it to a storage device. Format is wipe clean, right?
Can you give a little more detailed step by step, please?
I understand some of it but not all.

Thanks
Fay

Make sure windows XP disc in cd drive. When the PC first starts, press DEL or F1 (or another key) to enter setup.

There will be an option the Boot device priority. You will change to change the first boot device to the CD Rom. Save Changes and Exit. When PC reboots you will be prompted to press any key to boot from CD. Hit any key.

Press Enter when you get the screen To setup Windows XP now - then press Enter again at the Welcome to setup screen. Press F8 to accept the license agreement.

Please see the following for detailed instructions on how to install XP from here.
