Default Major Defragging Problem

Hi all I'm new here, nice to meet everyone. I just installed my first legal copy of XP Professional, and after installing all of my needed drivers and requisite software that I use often, I noticed that my Windows drive is 50% fragmented. I ran Windows Defrag and it read that I needed to defrag the drive. I ran the defrag, but it didn't do anything and after the fact it was still 50% fragmented. I would rather not reformat as I think this copy of XP can only be activated 3 times. I've already done it once today, so that only leaves 2 more times. Can anyone recommend a solution for me?I don't want to **** away 150 bucks as that's what I paid for this copy new. Any help rendered would be met with great anticipation.

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Technicaly you can only activate windows 3 times online. However once activated 3 times you would have to use the free toll number that appears via drop downbox when you activate windows.Put in the numbered code and an actictivation code is generated. If this dont work they have a tech line to ring and they can help you out.

Wow thank you very much, Jelly Bean, I did not know that. If I can keep using this copy beyond 3 online activations, I'm not so worried then. Now I don't worry about reformatting. Thank you so much. You, sir/madame (no offense) have made my day!

I do apologize for my misunderstanding. No I do a manual defrag every other day as I am used to with my "less than legal copy" of Windows XP. This legal copy is not impressing me much. But again, thank you so much for the tip about activating a legal copy other than online. Again, thank you Miss Jelly Bean, I appreciate help wherever it comes from.
