Smile computer clean-up

I have a Toshiba laptop which is about 5 years old, operating with XP2000. Even though I have a high speed internet service through my cable company, responses have become slow. Even start up and shut down take forever.
Up until a few months ago, I could go into "cookies" and delete them. Now, however, I can't find "cookies" anywhere on the computer. I've used the "explore" function and looked in every file.
Periodically I compress and defragment files, but this doesn't seem to help.
I keep getting messages that my "virtual memory" is low and windows is expanding it. I recently got a message stating "out of memory at 665".
I need to know if there is a way of cleaning up this computer to get rid of junk and create more space, thus speeding things up

Size is 1.33 mb
size on disc is 1.25 mb
contains 16 files, 1 folder
free space is 3.04 gb
total size is 18.6 gb
This ia all the info I could find. I just need to know if there are programs I can run that will free up space and allow the response time to speed up. As I stated before, I compress and defragment periodically. and I can no longer find "cookies". (I used to periodically delete all cookies to the recycle bin, then delete them from there). Help!!

Hello, have you done disk clean up under admin tools?

You are running out of space on the hard drive.I would backup your data to floppy/CD/DVD/external hard drive then delete these files from your machine. You realy need to make some space.

You could try deleting some system restore points.

You could turn space to use for system restore down to about 2-3%.

Go here:

CCleaner - Download

download and install the program and run it....

Under the Cleaner section: select “Run Cleaner”

Under the Registry section: select “Scan for Issues”

(when asked about registry “Backup” save & then accept where it saves it to.)

then “Fix Selected Issues”

I'll bet it finds in excess of 10,000 redundant files

Jelly Bean agrees: Thankyou.
