Hmmm so you cant boot from the xp cd at all? have you tried the boot selection ? or changed to cd first in the bios?

yes but have you tried doing into bios and setting it to boot from cd? press either F2 or del key(sometimes F1) then search for boot options and set cd or floppy as first device. Is it a restore kit? if you have not got it set to either of these set it will keep trying from the hdd

Yes i have done that still no go,what i did try is that i took out the hard drive and gave it to someone else and he tried in a caddy and a main frame computer and they both did not reconise the hdd.
Then i tried a new hard drive in my comp and did not reconise that either.

so neither the old hard drive or the new hard drive is recognised in your machine? in bios? you should still be able to boot from cd unless you have not set the jumpers correctly
