Default Problem which effects only one user profile...

Hello,

I operate on a Toshiba laptop, Windows XP.

I have two user profiles on my PC.

On the "admin" profile, I am unable to open up IE browser, and word document / programme, any windows media programme, system restore etc.

They will either simply not open (egg time comes, then goes without any action), or in the case of trying a system restore, a failed, must shut down box comes up.

However, on my other user profile - it works fine. Everything is in order.

I don't know how this problem happened. It was fine 10 minutes ago.

All I did in the meantime was, change the name of some programme folders (first in the the second user profile - which would not allow me to - so I had to switch to the admin profile which would let me).

This is the only thing I can think of...

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Sincerely,

Sinnott

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

I belive in control panel users accounts only admin can change files. You have to set permissions on the other accounts.Like guest account do,nt have admin privs so it will not be allowed to change files.

Check your user accounts and see which way they are setup?

Also on files/pictures etc there are restrictions set that they cannot be shared or they can be shared etc.

You can set allow other users to change these files by right click on the file and then properties in the share tab check what it is set at?

Hi,

The problems are on the admin account. Nothing is opening.

Thanks.

Firstly I would do the prework the link below in pink just incase you have caught a virus.

Have you recently installed any new software or excepted a file or picture from a friend?

Does the IE page even come up?

Try this:click start then run type in box %temp% then ok and delete temp files in there.
If you can then get IE to open click on tools scroll to internet options and delete cookies/history/temp files.

Also click start scroll to all programms then accessories.Locate admin tools and then disk cleanup, check all boxs in there and click ok.
