Hi to everyone . . .

My problem is the Windows Installer. I am using XP Professional. Whenever I try to install anything I get the message . . . "The windows installer service could not be assessed."

I have tried several "fixes" with no success. I will greatly appreciate and help.

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,

Welcome to PCHF! I have moved your thread to Windows 2000/XP forum so we can better assist you with problem.

Have you tried the following fixes as recommeded by Microsoft. If not try those first.

"Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" error message when installing application

Also have you tried downloading and re-installing the Microsoft Installer. You can get it here:

Download details: Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable

Post back if you already tried the above with no success.

Hello DIIRE

Thanks for your quick response to my problem.
Yes, I have tried what you suggested to no avail.

Anyway, I decided to uninstall SP2 and reinstall it. After removing SP2, I was able to install Windows Installer 3.1. So now Windows Installer works!

However, I've search Microsoft's Download web site and can't find SP2.

I posed this problem to their web support and as yet have not received a reply.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help,

Jim
