Default Devce manager problem

Hi all,

Recently my Mp3 started having problems ( it wouldn't show up on my computer and wouldn't charge ) I scoured the internet for solutions and was directed to the Device manager. I can't , however, open up the device manager through either control panel>system ( comp says " the file cannot be found" ) or through start>run dvmgmt.msc ( comp says " windows cannot find dvmgmt.msc......." ) It's not affecting my life a great deal at the moment, but I feel that this may be quite serious - I'm not sure.
I hope there's an easy solution to this one - I couldn't find anyone with the same problem, so here I am.
I'm not too savvy with computers so go easy on me please.

Thanks in advance CHRIS.

P.s Mp3 works fine on other comps so I'm pretty sure there's no problem there.

I ran the scan, I'm not sure whether or not I should have some log for it though.
I tried opening the device manager, but I was given the same message. Have I done it correctly? thanks in advance.

What next?

( comp says " the file cannot be found" ) or through start>run dvmgmt.msc ( comp says " windows cannot find dvmgmt.msc......." )
The correct run command is: devmgmt.msc

Ok, try running this reg fix: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (scroll down to line 107,
right-hand column --> Restore the Device Manager).

It's likely that if this (and the scannow fix) doesn't work, you could well be looking at a repair install.
