Default fluttering or stuttering sound

I have been all over with this and even thought that at one time that I had found the problem. Now I can say (for sure?) that my Dell C610 cured itself after I did something to cause it to start up with a previous configuration. It started back up with the icons aligned the way I had them previously. I had been switching the CD drive with a DVD drive and switching batteries. I found that this is a common problem and it is pretty agrivating.
I'd like to get the word out to those frustrated people that, at least with mine; Dell laptop, the answer is to get back to a previous registry configuration.
Hope that helps someone.

FYI...The term for "a previous registry configuration" is Restore Point.

It doesn't work with all Dell's I'm afraid. I have an i6000 and have had intermittent sound problems for many months. I tried System Restore and my problem returned. I have also reinstalled and updated every driver possible, yet my error remains.
I am now 99% sure either my hard drive is faulty or the CPU is slowly dying on me.

Thanks for the info on your success though.

My sound is still ok. I haven't changed anything and I'm not going to on purpose. This machine changed the icon configuration and the screen saver by itself.
