Default Need help repairing XP

Hi, I have an very confusing problem, I having problem with my laptop. It seen whenever I try to power on my computer, it say that the hal.dll file is missing and I need to run a Windows XP cd-rom and repair it. However I got three problem: 1. I don't have an WIndows Xp CD. 2. Even if I did have it or an image on a blank CD, my cd drive isn't working right now. And 3. I search the net for alternative ways only to find involing floppy disks, while I only got my usb flash disk. It there a way to use an flash disk to repair Xp almost similar to the floppy disk?

Yes make your usb drive bootable Boot From A USB Flash Drive. Boot from it and run winnt or winnt32 from c:\ I386 folder. If your I386 folder was deleted then you will need to source a cd from somewhere and copy the I386 folder to your flash drive

My flash drive is already bootable, and I should have mention this in my first post that I tried using one of the floppy disk method and on the screen it says " Operating system is not found." I clearly don't understand what it mean by that. So what do I do next now my flash drive is bootable?

I think you will need to source a XP cd from someone and copy the I386 folder from the cd to the flash drive.Chances are its been deleted from your install

You look though. Boot from flash drive at A:\type cd c:\windows and hit enter then type dir look for I386 if its there type cd I386 hit enter you will see C:\windows\I386\ type WINNT hit enter if nothing try WINNT32. If its not there in windows do whats outlined below

Source xp cd copy folder from cd I386 to usb flash drive
boot from the flash drive you should get a A:\
at the A:\ type cd I386 (as long as I386 folder is on root of the USB drive
It will then say something like A:\I386\ at this prompt type WINNT and hit enter. If nothing happens try WINNT32

As long as set up starts you have options such as recovery console with fixboot and fixmbr commands or bootcfg /rebuild at a push or you can perform a repair install

if it has one yes

if you want to try recovery comsole you need the command to be like this A:\I386\WINNT32 /cmdcons (again I think as its been a long time some of the commands may be off if you get nowhere post back)
