Default [Resolved] Sound problems

Can someone please help me resolve sound problems on my computer? I can hear sound just fine if i put an audio CD in my DVD drive, but if i find a sound file on the internet, it looks like the sound is playing, but no sound is coming from the computer. Please let me know what other information is needed if any. Thank you
I should add that i installed bluetouth not to long ago. Maybe that is the problem?
Ellen

Hello Ellen,

What happens if you save that sound file to your desktop and run it using Media Player, does it work? Do you know what types of file your having problems with, mp3, wave, voc? What about youtube videos? Can you hear the welcome sound when Windows starts?

Madmonkey, thank you for your help. Here is what I found: wma plays, mp3 plays, wav plays, could not find a voc file to try. No youtube sound, but video no problem. no welcome sound when window starts or stops. no midi sound. Did not know of anything else to try. What is the next step? Thank you
Ellen

Thanks for that Ellen. Nice Avatar by the way, makes me feel all relaxed 'n' stuff.

OK, can you download and install the following codec pack should resolve your problems: Download details: Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later

I did install the file you gave. at the end of the installation i got this message:
Windows Media Player 10
This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site.
i clicked on the icon given but it came up with no explanation.
I checked and i am running WMP 11 not 10.
I closed Mozilla Firefox, opened it again and still no sound on youtube.
The avatar is nice i agree. Especially since it shows place were i went on vacation a few years ago. The best vacation ever. reminds me of it. Also helps me deal with this wonderful computer when it decides not to behave the way it is supposed to.
What is the next step? Thank you for your help. Rebooting the computer did not help

Try this one Ellen: Codec Installation Packages for IT Professionals

but make sure you click on the download button at the bottom of the page - is the only one that will work with XP Pro.
