Unhappy Excessive memory use

Hi,
A couple days ago while playing Call of Duty 4 I noticed a huge performance drop. It usually runs at 60fps or higher, but now was only running at about 20fps. I shut the game down and opened the task manager. All of my processes are taking up ridiculous amounts of memory. Explorer.exe usually tops the list averaging over 80,000k with lsass.exe trailing with around 40,000k. Correct me if I'm wrong but this seems MUCH higher than I remember. Even when I'm doing nothing the PC is using 30% of the ram.
I have no clue what happened. I checked for spyware and I'm completely clean. Help?

PC:
ASUS 8800gts 320mb@600mhz
2gigs g.skill ram
core2 duo E6600@2.6ghz

Murphyslaw, the link doesn't work here either, it gives a 404 error, could you please re-check it?
