Default Formatting.

Right, I have a Windows 98 SE disk right here and I currently have Windows XP home installed on my laptop and I want to downgrade to 98. I have been told that I have to format the HDD, but how do I do this via the BIOS? I have the XP Home install disk here too and I have done the format to FAT32 on that but as soon as it finishes formatting it directly proceeds to install XP, I don't want that! So how do I just format it and then install 98?
Any help is appreciated
George.

Do you mean you formatted the PC to windows XP Home and then when it reboots it starts to install xp?

I am a little confused on the issue.

Ok you can remove the HDD fit it as an external or an internal slave drive to another pc and format it as storage then put back into pc to format with 98SE.

Once fitted as slave or external reboot the PC it is installed on,go to my computer and open, right click on the new drive and scroll to format a warning will popup you will loose all data just continue.

Go to Bios and set first boot to Floppy if the OS came with a floppy and CD install disk, put in floppy diskette or set to CD/DVD rom put in win 98 disk press F10 save and exit then follow the instructions on the screen.

Why are you downgrading from XP Home to win 98?

You can convert 32 bit to NTFS with a simple command.

Thanks for that, it was very useful . But the information is not needed now, I installed 98 just to see what it was like again and have quickly realised why I switched from it . I'm reinstalling XP right now! As soon as I get my ME disc then will need this info .
Thankyou very much .
George.
