I had to break down and take it in to get re-booted and XP reinistalled. Already spent 3 days dicking around with it and don't have the time to spend any more. Thanks so much for your responses. I'm sure I'll be back with other questions. It's great to have this resource.

I know that's old for a laptop... but if you want it --XP discs are cheap, now that Vista is out.

Yes. Picked it up the next day for $50.00. Still have to download SP1 & SP2, but at least I'm back in business. Thanks for asking.
