ok, i opened up my laptop, but chickened out about halfway through. i was too afraid of breaking something. i gave hiren's boot cd another look and found a couple things that might do the trick. i tried a brute force bios cracker, which was taking way too long. so i looked around some more and found something called diskman4, which allowed me to simply wipe the bios and reset it.

unfortunately, even though i am now able to access my bios, i still cannot boot to windows. i see nothing in the bios that i can change that may help things.

Hi Daz,you appear to of wiped XP Pro from your laptop.
As you do not see a choice of OS there.
There for I asume a reinstall of XP Pro is needed.

If you had created a dual boot there would of been some hope of saving XP Pro.

i fixed it. i don't remember the exact name of the program, but its called <something> partition doctor. it can be found on Hiren's Boot CD. i only wish i had figured it out sooner (before i had done a recovery install) that i could do this, cause now i gotta finish going through an unneeded XP installation. oh well.

well, thanks anyway.
