Thumbs up [Resolved] Service Pack 2-3 problem

I recently installed SP3 release candidate 2 on my pc. I didn't feel it ran well and may have made a mistake. I ran system restore to revert to pre SP3 without uninstalling 1st. Now my add/ reomove programs doesn't show SP2 or SP3, yet microsoft update says I have SP2. I have 'show updates' ticked. Any advice on procedure to get m 'back to normal'? Thanks alot, Shep

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

No you do not uninstall SP2 to install SP3,leave sp2 were it is.

Whe you open my computer/properties what shows up there?

SP3 is terrible I had to uninstall it and ended up reformatting 3 PCs and a laptop.

Open controll panel then go to add and remove check show updates box and search there?

It says SP3. Though SP3 isn't listed in add/remove programs, and show updates box is checked as stated. Search can't find SP2 or SP3 in entire C: drive. To be clear, I didn't uninstall SP2 to install SP3. I installed SP3, didn't like it and wanted to go back to SP2. BY MY MISTAKE! - I ran System Restore to revert back to preSP3 install state (I made a restore point prior to install of SP3). Since that restore, I can't find either service pack on my pc. thanks for your reply, please advise - Shep

Hey Shep

Do you have "updates" checked (top right) in the add/remove programs box?

Gosh shep you should of uninstalled SP3 RC through add and remove.

Do you have your XP install disk?

Hindsight being 20/20, yeah shoulda... It shows SP3 in my computer properties, but it's not in add/remove...What to do? Should I see SP2 in control panel or where if not?

I think you should undo the system restore and then see if you can uninstall SP3 RC via add and remove.

A little. SP3 now shows up in control Panel, but when i press remove, a window says it may already been removed, but it still shows up in my computer properties. Should I try downloading and reinstalling to see if i can uninstall after that? Thanks alot, jelly bean - Shep
