Default Boot from XP copy

Hi,

I have made a clone copy of my original Windows XP CD and whenever I try to boot from it, it won't boot, on the other hand, if I put the CD while in Windows, it autoruns and presents me the Windows installation menu. Any idea why?

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

It has not copied properly or a file extension is missing?

Burn a copy with Nero.

It runs fine when inserted while in Windows, it brings up the blue windows install menu and I'm able to install Windows from there. I have tried the same CD on a laptop and it worked. I tried it on a clone PC and it will not boot.

Have you set up the BIOS to boot from the CD first? To do so continually hit F11 or F12 and select "Boot from Disk." (It varies for different BIOS.)

Hi have you got CD/DVD disk cleaner for your rom drive?
Update driver for CD/DVD rom.
Your CD/DVD rom cannot read the disk properly.
I have diks that run fine when desktop is running however it may run on a PC/laptop and install windows but it may not run on others.

It is poosible your CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk properly,or did you load fail safe and defaults in BIOS then set CD/DVD rom as first boot device.
