Smile [Resolved] Random restarts during installation of video games/programs.

Here are my specs:

Windows XP SP2
AMD Athlon 1.8 GHZ
768 Ram (512 + 256)
160 Gigabyte Western Digital Harddrive
e-GeForce 6200 LE Video Card (AGP)
On-board Sound Card
620 Wat Fan

Recently I had a stick of ram go bad on me it was giving me blue screens of death. So I determined which stick was bad via trial and error and I removed it. Everything was running fine.

About a week later I took out a 40 Gigabyte harddrive and replaced it with the 160 Gigabyte Western Digital. I also took out my old ATI Rage Video Card and replaced it with the e-Geforce card. Again, everything ran fine for a few days.

Well I went to install the expansion to World of Warcraft and during instillation (NOT Downloading) my computer randomly restarted. I tried unsuccesfully to install a few more times. Then I removed my world of warcraft install fully. Today I tried to reinstall the original game and it's now restaring at random during instillation also.

I can do anything else fine. Browse the web, use AIM/Yahoo/MSN Messangers, play already installed games, listen to music, watch movies. Nothing else seems to cause a random restart.

I also checked for overheating and this was not the case. Also before attempting the instillation I WAS able to play World of Warcraft without the expansion with zero problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I've run scandisk, chkdsk, and Defrag multiple times.

welcome to PCHF SX2020,

It's random rebooting. I JUST tried to install again and got this:

Problem caused by Device Driver
You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused the Windows operating system to stop unexpectedly. This type of error is referred to as a "stop error." A stop error requires you to restart your computer.

Also, if this helps anything it ONLY seems to randomly reboot during large instillations. I installed AIM, and a few older video games with no problem. But World of Warcraft will get me a bit of a ways into the instillation and randomly restart.

well a device driver can be a number of things.

* Printers
* Video adapters
* Network cards
* Sound cards
* Local buses of various sorts - in particular, for bus mastering on modern systems
* Low-bandwidth I/O buses of various sorts (for pointing devices such as mice, keyboards, USB, etc.)
* computer storage devices such as hard disk, CD-ROM and floppy disk buses (ATA, SATA, SCSI)

you said your problem is installing a big game such a WoW. there might be a interference problem with the Cd rom drive and the harddrive.

What could cause interferance?
I've had the same mouse/keyboard for 2+ years
I'm NOT installing from a CD I have the game directly on my harddrive via download
My Sound Card driver has not changed in 3+ years.

I also have no printers hooked up. The thing that makes me wonder is it only seems to be with big downloads, nothing else causes an issue.
