Default Installation error

I've been trying too install many things over the past year on this computer but for some reason they keep failing. First off the "free driver scan" button at the top of this webpage. I tried too do the scan, when the install active x control bar came up i clicked it and installed it and the popup box came up too so i clicked install. it went away and i waited 1 minute 2 minutes finnaly five minutes, NOTHING was happening. It wasn't even frozen, its like it ignored what i told it too do and just exited. now this has happened too me HUNDREDS of other time when i try too install random things it always just goes away when i click install. It's even happening so i cannot install java, and i cant watch videos.

Another installation-uninstallation problem im haveing is with a few video game (specificly, red alert two, civilazation3 and tons of others) when i try too install them it comes up with the error "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is inccorect." this exact thing is happening with almost every game i try too install or play. At the top above the error it says Error: Create directroy(C:\|TEMP\)

I really think all these errors are related somehow so if ANYONE has ANY knowlege on whats going on, your wisdom would be MUCH appreciated.

A little more may be helpful.

Is your windows installed on c:\ or have you installed to another drive or partition e.g. f:\

Also can you please give the exact error you are getting.

When i try too install things like java or the driver update, then i dont even get an error. It simply exits after i click install.

When i try too install some games the exact error im getting is "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is inccorect" and above that it says "Error: CreateDirectory (C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\|TEMP\) The filename varies from game too game but it all ends in |TEMP

And Window is installed on c:\

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Are you trying to download this via bittorent or a similar shareware?

What antivirus are you using?

You may want to do this prework and post the results back here for our security team.

http://www.pchelpforum.com/hijackthi...a-prework.html

I think you may have to make folder for these games like this C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\leaderheads

Firstly you need to make a folder for that pesific game then do whats below. But this only works if you are downloading from a proper site not shareware.

This is only and example

Step 1
Unzip Leaderhead files into C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\leaderheads

Step 2
Unzip Unit files into C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\units

Step 3
Unzip Flic Files into C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\Flics

Step 4
Unzip Text Files into C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Text

Step 5
Place scenario file into C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Scenarios

ActiveX once you click install it just installs it shows no other popup window.

Ok, so i went trought most of the prework thing i installed AVG and HIJACKthis but for some reason when i tried too install superspyware it came up with an error, it was similar too all the other errors im getting, it said "Error 1324. The folder path '|TEMP' contains an invalid character."

The thing with Civilazation is that i already have it installed but it come up with that error when i try too play it and when i try too uninstall it (by the way its on a CD) i get the error "Error extracting support files: The server threw and exception." and then it exits. How would i unzip things from a CD?

To unzip from cd?Copy files on there to pc.Did you mention they were on CD earlier?Or did you download and put to CD?

If you downloaded it and put it to cd it maybe missing a file or a file extension?
