Default Slow running pc and IE issues

Hi my mother has recently clicked on the Jave updates available balloon that pops up and installed all the new info - since doing so her IE icon now takes her to the following url instead of Google (which she'd set as her home page).
Customize Your Settings

The url seemed to be a dead page last time I checked it for her - any ideas whats gone on - also her PC is running VERY slow since the updates were installed - is this linked to the problem too?

Go to Command Prompt, type in

ping "homepage" where "" is your home page URL (DON'T type in quotes)

It'll give you some information about the site and set it to your homepage. Try it out. It worked for me when I couldn't load any page except the link you posted above. Thx and have a great day!

just a quick thought,
If your running any spy/adware detector, check it settings if it accepted that page as home you may find a check box that prevents home page changes. It happened to me with spybloc. Just unchecked it and reset my homepage

The customize your settings page is for Internet Explorer 7-- it appears to be legit site.
The update probably reset a few things...the slowdown could be caused by firewall (?) -- or some security app wanting to block homepage changes.
Open her google home page-- click on Tools/Internet Options/Use Current.
If it is the menu does not work-- post back here.
