Default missing multimedia audio controller

I deleted a program by accident because I was low on what the computer calls: 'virtual memory' I have no idea of what virtual memory is, but I deleted a program that had the word 'graphic' in it. I had previously downloaded a graphics program for printing graph paper: I'm not sure if that was the program I deleted since it is gone and I can't remember what I deleted.

The only thing I know is after I deleted the program, I lost all sound on my computer

Then I restarted it: and the computer started looking for something called a 'multimedia audio controller'... but it could not find the software since it was deleted by accident.

I don't have any CD's for this computer because I bought it 2nd hand as-is, so I can't look up any Wondows CD to replace the missing program I deleted. I couldn't find anything like an audio controller anywhere on download.com or windows update.

I also couldn't find where my sound card is: it is not in the device manager, at least I can't find it...

Heeeelp!

Hi turak, welcome to PCHF

Do you know what sound card you have? Once we find that out we may be able to restore sound by installing a driver.

Hi all!

In my computer all of the sound missing. I had realtech AC'97 audio driver, but a day it disapeared. I tried to reinstall, but the computer write that the driver didn't go throught the windows compatibility check. Then I choose to go on but nothing happened. The sound didn't return, the computer write that the adaptor programs weren't installed. Somebody please help me. I don't know what to do. I tried everything I know. Thanks for your help.

I fixed the problem already>, I nice guy by the name of John-Tim Riley found the dell website where I dowwnloaded my missing driver, but thanks anyways... by the way: this free computer scan that you recommend: Is it good just as a general principle for updating old drivers? Is it really free? Or is it a scam just to get you to buy something? Once I install it, can I take it out again if I don't want it?
Thanks again.

Sure you can uninstall it-- it is not a scam-- I have used it personally.
It is more about convenience--as it says... you can go hunting all over for updated drivers for each device... or you can check them all at once there.
