Default [Fixed]Boot-up Problem

Hi - am new here and am enjoying the great help i've received for my queries so far.

This problem isnt life-threatening, its just annoying.

I bought my PC a year ago and its been unstable since day one. Its a HP Media Center, 4500 or something. I did a system restore on it once, but it wiped so much stuff off my machine that i'll never do one again.

The problem at start up is i get the black screen saying something like "Windows found a problem - with system/config.exe - Insert Disc and press 'r' to start repair".

The PC came with pre-loaded OS (Windows XP), so i have no disc to insert to start the repair.

After i bypass this, i usually get the black screen that says "WIndows didnt start properly, you can choose to go to safe mode, or use last best know configuration".

I get this screen twice with a 30-second countdown, then windows starts. Its annoying and time consuming, and wondered if it needs fixing ?

Thanks again
D

Hi there

After i bypass this,
How are you bypassing this message?

Anything you do to try and fix this will require an XP disc..this, for instance;
How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

Hingis, it tells me to insert disc and click 'R' to start repair - i dont have the disc so i just push enter / return and it carries on loading.

I then get the ' we apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows etc' screen, with the 30 second countdown.

this happens twice - then on the third attempt it loads up windows.

hope this helps - thnx for your reply.

Hmmm... you're going to need to get hold of a copy of XP if you want to banish this message my friend

No Hingis - its all sorted - thanks.

I chatted to Jelly Bean, and in the end i deleted McAfee from my system and installed Virgin Broadbands freebie security package, and since then its all worked fine. Have rebooted 4 times since i took McAfee off, and message hasnt appeared once.

Virgins PC Guard detected 56 spybot programmes - so perhaps this was the problem. Ive also managed to solve my other problem here today too - which was losing internet connection as router kept dropping, but since McAfee went, EVERYTHING is perfect and back to normal.

Thanks to the site for all the assistance, i'll gladly recommend this place to all my friends at work.

Cheers
Dame
