Default [Answered] Desktop Organization - W 2000

As the number of programs on the desktop grows, the graphical presentation becomes unwieldy.
Back in the days of DOS, I had a simple program that allowed me one liners of text (my choice) to describe program types and then had sub folders (sub-sub etc) that accessed the programs
As example: (sub programs hidden until first level selected
1- Graphical Programs
1-1 Corel
1-2 Freelance
2- Word Processors
2-1 Word
2-2 Word Perfect

Is there anything like that in W 2000? I really can't take all the pics anymore!

lol ottawaexec, welcome to PCHF.

W2000 as in Windows 2000? DOS and Windows are seperate entities. Back in the days of DOS you would load Windows by typing in win.

The desktop will always be part of Windows. If you want organise your programmes, you can put them into folders by right clicking on your desktop, and click on New > Folder. Drag the icons you want into that folder. Go into that folder and click on View followed by Detail to list your programs is list view rather than listing them as icons.

Thank you Mad Monkey
Now instead of a screen full of annoying pictures I have 15 folders with text-identified programs in each.

No prob's. One more tip if you also want to read your folders that way too:

- If you put all of those folders into a single folder (create a new folder on the desktop and then drag the other folders in).
- Right click on that root folder, and click Create Shortcut.
- Right click on your new shortcut and click Cut.
- Right click on your Start button and click on Open.
- Navigate through Programs, and Startup.
- Finally go to Edit followed by Paste.

Each time you start your PC, that list of folders will appear on your desktop without you having to click on them.
