Default [Pending] Windows Media Player not working correctly

So I've searched google to try and find answers and so far every other "solution" that has worked for everyone else, has yet to work for me.
I have Windows XP Service Pack 2. I have all the latest windows updates (to my knowledge).
I've tried adding media to my library when I open Windows Media Player 11 by monitoring folders and it does not add anything. I try again, and it acts like I never added anything to the monitor folder list. Nothing is there.
So I try and revert back to Windows Media Player 10. Nope, can't do that. I get a nice error saying what I'm trying to do is incompatible, etc.
I've even tried doing a System Restore and THAT even fails. (that used to be my fix for EVERYTHING)
So I've run out of ideas on what to do....ANY suggestions would be great...and I'm sure my computer's beginning to break down on me...but right now the issue is currently me trying to get my media player to work like it used to!
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Veetus

Default Re: Windows Media Player not working correctly

Hi veetus, sorry for the delay

Have you tried this:-

Navigate to this folder (USERPROFILE would be your profile name)

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\ "

Delete the folder `Media Player` and replace it with a new folder called `Media Player` (without the quotes)

This should sort it out.

If your using media sharing, you may need to do one more thing, as you cant delete the folder if media sharing is running

Go to Start menu -> Run: Type in "services.msc" without the quotes.

Find the service called "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Serivce", Right-Click on it so it says 'Stopped'. Now go back to the Media Player folder and delete it.

Now go back to WMP, and you should be able to put your files back in.
