Hi PC Forum,

I have agreed to fix my fathers PC and have found out that the hard drive is trashed. So I have purchased a new one and installed it and then asked him for his copy of xp...No he hasnt got it!!! So, I thought as the pc has the original product key label on the side of the case, I'll just install my copy of xp and when it gets to enter the product key, i'll just enter his instead...No that doesnt work...any suggestions?

Hi install it of your CD and use the key on the PC after the install and change it like this How to change the Volume Licensing product key on a computer that is running Windows XP SP1 and later versions of Windows XP
