ih8bills, please don't be upset, i just want to make sure first that there is nothing that can be done. disassembling the computer is not going to be simple for me, my life is on it too, so i am trying to see that it can not be avoided.

<Chuckles> upset, me ? Not a chance--I would want to take every possible step to correct this before I had to gut my PC, too.

I really could not understand a major maker voiding a warranty over a bios update-- makes no sense to me.
On the other hand-- there have been a lot of bios updates for this board-- and they are all CPU-related. A lot more than would be expected-- in my opinion. My motherboard's bios-- is version # 19-- but it was released 5 years ago. (May,2003)

Fortunately-- you dealt with the right vendor--so if there is a real problem w/the mobo--I am confident that Newegg will take care of it. You are still well within their return policy-- should be as easy as is possible...I will be around.
If there's a fix Mad will track it down.

ih8bills, i just took a careful look at my invoice. I was wrong. the purchase date is not July 2007, it is July 2006. That will be back to the manufacturer for me I guess.

If it does come to that--you'll still need to work through Newegg.
Who knows? -- they may elect to just cover it...I have read mostly good (nobody gets 100%) reviews about Newegg for returning defective parts. They are consistently highly rated.

Since the maker warrantees for 3 years--it would not make good business sense to make the customer chase them-- especially when you look at the millions of $ changing hands.
I would not want to guess how many Asus motherboards they sell in a year...I'll bet it's a whole lot of them.

Sending the board back is the best idea, but don't forget that there is still a smaller possibility that this may be a CPU issue (altough the board is most likely). Sending the dump/log files will help your case providing there is somebody there to decode them at Newegg, but will certainly help ASUS. Updating the BIOS may work also, but remember that if anything goes wrong (which it quite often can), it will most likely render the board useless and void your warranty. The contact details should be available on your receipt/invoice, or from here: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!

someone has suggested that i run a program called Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool. so i did. after 26.5 hours of running random memory tests on my computer, it came up with no errors. i don't know if you are familiar with it, but thought i would mention it. I am going to see if i can find something to check the temp on my computer (another suggestion from a friend) and see it that shows anything. According to the person who built my computer, it is overclocked by 20%, but his is the same built and is overclocked by 25% for over 2 years, no problems. I also run PC Pitstop: Free PC Diagnostics, computer help and Tuneups tests and passed with flying colors. no problems found. Thank you for your help.

That was a good suggestion, as RAM is the most common cause of BSOD's, but you would experience different types of BSOD than the 9c. Data corruption can also be another side affect of faulty memory but we ruled this out quite quickly as soon as you posted those three. Any chance you could get that PC set back to normal clock speed (despite the other PC being overclocked by 25%. You may have identical hardware, but I can bet that you don't use the PC in the same way - different CPU operations).

You may have identical hardware, but I can bet that you don't use the PC in the same way - different CPU operations).
I second that idea-- as even supposedly "identical" hardware -- may not be truly identical. Even two CPU's that are the exact same model --won't necessarily OC to the same levels in different systems--Overclocker sites will tell you that if you read for a while. There are microscpiic variations in any chip-- it is a piece of silicon, after all.
They really try to keep variations to a minimum-- but tiny ones are there.
Whenever troubleshooting a PC you should mention if it is overclocked right away... it is an important factor.
It could also affect your warranty coverage-- if you sent that board back to Asus-- in an overclocked configuration-- they might have said "you abused this board"
and might not cover it...
