I have added my hardware to profile and made it visible. thanks for the hint. i could not find how to figure out what my sound card is, so that is missing. the rest is taken directly off the invoice (from newegg). i might have gotten things in the wrong box as when it comes to hardware, i am useless, but it is all there. I also found that it was built in July 07.

Hey ebaskin, ek, is your PC still under warranty?

I'm showing a bus connection error in those logs and have ruled out all possible hardware and software issues leaving either the CPU or motherboard, or possible compatibility issue between the two. From the ASUS web site (ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-), it's shows a large number of BIOS updates related to CPU support. However, this doesn't explain why the problem has started suddenly. The BIOS update is quite a risky process and is certainly not guarenteed to resolve your issues. If the update fails then it will most likely void any warranty you may have?

You may well be on the "onboard" setup--a lot of makers have sort-of decent-sounding setups these days--
These are your motherboards techspecs--
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

all asus boards after 1999 carry three-year warranty.

You're in the US --where did your buddy buy it-- and who's name is on the receipts--?
It should not really matter-- but it'd be best if the buyer lodged the complaint.
Their support website says to contact the seller.

See my specs--I have an Asus board myself... faults are quite rare.
If he bought at Newegg.com return for replacement within 1-year...

madmonkey, do you think i should contact the retailer? i see that you are a member of the tech support team. do you see something that i can do?
ih8bills, please don't be upset, i just want to make sure first that there is nothing that can be done. disassembling the computer is not going to be simple for me, my life is on it too, so i am trying to see that it can not be avoided.
