Default USB Adapter not recognised

I'm using a Voyager 1055 USB adapter in my machine to connect wireless to my broadband hub, the problem I'm having is that my machine thinks its a "mass storage device" & when starting my PC it comes up with the icon in the bottom right of the desk top that I can "safely remove hardware" if I follow the on screen instructions & remove it (but leave the adapter plugged in) my machine will work fine, but if i don't after a short period of time my system will lock up/freeze.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop this happening?

Did you install the software first as instructed in the manual?
