Windows XP/2000 - explorer.exe won't start posted in the Operating Systems forums; If you open Task manager-- under Processes Tab scroll down-- look for explorer.exe-- is it there??...

If you open Task manager-- under Processes Tab
scroll down-- look for explorer.exe-- is it there??

I am going to ask for advice on this one-- I don't know if that is some weird Virus doing that-- or if Windows is corrupted....
If Explorer.exe does not show up in task manager... you should not have a desktop to work from. The desktop runs under explorer.

well there isn't anything on the desktop besides the wall paper i put on it. i have to run all of the programs from the task manager.

Yessir-- I understood what you meant... I was just saying it is odd for explorer not to appear in task manager-- I'm thinking it must be partially loaded/crashed-- and needs to be cleanly shut down -- so it can be restarted correctly.

That is what I'm trying to find out.
