Cool windows media player error C00D10BA

I did a search on this site and came up no hits.

My PC is less than a year old. All legit. The Media player suddenly started giving me this error saying the link to my Music is busted.

I went to Google and they suggested a lot of sites who advertized a free download to fix this error.
All the downloads are free, but to fix the problem you have to pay for more software. A bit of false advertising there it seems.

So I sent Microsoft a Nastygram asking why do they want to charge me for help with their product? Why dont they put up a fix for that problem?
Why are they so aloof and hard to reach when a customer has a legit problem?
Arragont to a fault.

Who can tell me how to get a fix for this problem. I dont want to lose all that music. It's all legit too.

Hello and Welcome to PCHF

Error Message:
C00D10BA: Cannot find the file
Translation:

The error message refers to a digital media file (such as an audio or video file) that Windows Media Player 10 can no longer find in your library (a database that contains information about digital media files on a computer, a network drive, or the Internet); this situation is also called a broken link. According to Microsoft documentation, you can encounter a broken link in the following two ways: a link to a temporary file from your Internet cache (such as a file in your Temporary Internet Files folder) was added to the library and later deleted or a link to a digital media file was added to the library and later deleted. Windows Media Player displays the above message when it can’t find the file associated with the link.
Solution:

To correct this problem, you can either repair or delete the broken link. If you moved the file, restore it to its original location. If you don’t want to move the file from its new location, right-click the item in your library and click Error Details. In the Windows Media Player dialog box, type the file’s new location or click the Browse button to locate it. Click OK to update the file’s location. If you simply want to delete the file from your library, click the Remove File From Library checkbox and click OK.

Thank you ma'am,
I sent MS a note asking for a fix. They sent the same thing you sent.
They suggested the help forum. I went there and it was closed. I may have the little black cloud hanging over my head.

I did not consiously move a link, destroy anything, or partially delete any thing from my PC.
I've done a search and cannot find any of the music I have left.
Anything I try to play comes up with the error so it appears the whole music file is lost. But when I go to Media player, it still shows the music.
I have some music loaded since then and I can play it.
When I kick n' struggle like this, and get nowhere, I just get sleepy and angry.

I went to some place 'RegCure' who say they can guarentee a fix, but they want money for it.
I have the obvious question about that: "If RegCure can do it, why cant Micro Soft do it?"

The only thing I can think of that might have contributed to this, took place a long time, at least a month, before the music started to dissapear. (Some music may still play, but I'm afaid to try for fear of losing it.)
I was moving some stuff to be copied to a CD as a backup.
While I was dragging some photo's from one place to another my finger came off the left mouse button.
I never found those photos again. I dont know where they went.

If the problem is in my 'registry' what do I do about that?

Do not use RegCure, or any other third party reg cleaner. It will only give you more headaches.
If you knew a name of one of the photos you could perform a Search on the file. Possibly finding those lost files. That would also make sense if you also lost those music files in that manner.

If the problem is in my 'registry' what do I do about that?
To be honest, the fastest and best way is to format and reinstall.

It was music I lost, not photo's. Sorry if I led you astray.
Are you saying there is no way I can recover those songs that I have recorded?

Why does Micro-soft make themselves so un-reachable?
It was thier fault that this happend. I was fine with Media player 10, but they suggested I get MP 11, and then the fight began.
Why cant I get them to help me without charging me?
Do you know what I can do to get hold of one of their tech's to help me with this thing?

GG explained the various fixes. Use them. Don't blaim MS for an "ID ten T" error (write it down - you'll figure it out).

Find any lost music files by searching the entire system for files with the right extension type ( .mp3, .wav, .wma, etc, etc.). Be sure to set the search options so that it searches subdirectories.

Repair the WMP filename cache using GG's method.

WinCrazy thanks for you efforts. I'll try, even though I dont understand.

Your remark about the Idiot in me was un-called for. As I explained before, the problem came to me from the MS download. Not some fool thing I did by moving things around within the WinMedPlayer program in my PC.
The Billionaire would be happy to know you are out here defending his un-finished bear-trap laden programs against the poor ignorant fools believing in his suggestions and instructions.

The hard part to swallow is the stuff he put's out is full of difficult to deal with errors, and he has the gall to charge the user for the fixes!
Dont that kinda bother you a little bit?
