Question [Fixed] How to format a PC

Hello,

I've been seraching the internet for a manual or tutorial to format my PC but each one tells you to do a different thing and I really need some help.
The reason why I want to format my PC is because it doesn´t work properly, each day you find a new problem and the PC is less than 1 year old.
The shop just gave me a number to ring but I have to pay for the technical support, so I've decided to try and do it myself.
First, I must clarify there are no viruses on my computer. I sacanned my PC yesterday and is clean.
I have no boot disk. I had a Packard bell computer years ago that came with a floppy disk called "Recovery Disk", but I have nothing similar for this new computer, so I'm gonna take this opportunity to also ask you how to get one or where to get it from. Thanks.

I have an "ACER" PC, with Windows XP Home Edition in Spanish (I also own a CD with this operating system). My computer has 2 hard drives with exactly the same capacity, but one of them is only used for storage (D).
If I format my PC, I would like to leave intact that "storage" hard drive D. Is it possible?
If not, I will copy everything in it and paste it to a friend's portable hard drive temporarily.
I have already saved all my documents and files so I'm ready to format my PC.
This is where I need your help because I have no idea how to do it.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you very much,

Leire2002

Hello leire2002, welcome to PCHF! Ok. Insert your windows XP install cd, then restart your computer. boot from the CD drive, and windows setup should start. it will instruct you how to format, (do a QUICK format its much faster) and then go on to install windows. make sure you format the drive that you want to format.

Hi!

Thank you very very much for such a quick reply!
Is it really that simple? I just need the operating system CD and... that's it?
I think I'll know how to follow the steps because I have formatted my previous PC with the Recovery floppy disk I told you about.
I'll let you know, but for the moment, many thanks!

Leire
