Default Missing IP address

Hi,
I recently had to reinstall windows xp i did everythin as my friend showed me before but for some reason i have no IP address on computer. My ISP took me to cmd >> run >> IPconfig & nothing was there, thats how i found out about it.
Only thing i have done different than before is 1 of my disks titled 'Drivers & Utilities' is scratched & wont load. I have looked through many forums & tried all they say to no avail. If its just the contents of that 1 disk i am sure i can just download from somewhere.
If you need any more info just let me know i don't want to list to much as most might be irrelevant.

Kind Regards,
Toby
