Question XP 64 bit RAM

Hey Guys this is my first post, so hello, Anyway...

Im slowly modding my PC more for gaming rather than other applications, I also use flash and dreamweaver alot for work. My question is: Without paying £200 + for a 64bit version of XP which is still quite unstable is there anyway of installing more than 4GB of RAM on a 32 bit version of XP Pro.

And what is it that actually stops you from useing more than 4GB on XP.

Cheers.

Welcome to PCHF Ryan

I don't think there is a way to get past that im afraid. I believe the reason lies with it being 32bit and it can only support a total of 4gb ram, so depending on the memory size of your graphics card subtract that from 4gb and that should be about the amount of ram you will be able to use if you had 4gb ram installed.

Heya and welcome to PCHF

The fact that Xp standard is 32bit, and 32bit can only recognize/address a maximum of about 3.2Gbs. (64bit has many other benefits then just memory btw)

Actually, 32bit cannot use/see/recognize the full 4Gbs of RAM, it'll see 3.2-3.5 of it instead

Ah right i heard somewhere that how much XP can utilise depends on the memory size on the graphics card. That may have been for vista though.

That's if it's an integrated video chip that shares system RAM to use as it's dedicated video memory
