Default Icons on desktop always move away from certain area

Hello all, this is my first time here and I thank everyone who may be able to help with my problem. It seems minor, but it just kind of bugs me. I also look forward to helping others out with there problems whenever possible!

Anyway, on to my problem. For some reason, there is a certain row of my desktop icons that will not stay populated. Anytime I do order by type they all order up correctly and that row is filled in but sometime later when I don't notice (it could be hours, or the next day, I'm not sure) all of the icons on that row get pushed down and it stays blank.

I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition w/ Service Pack 2.

I hope I have explained it well enough, but please let me know if I need to elaborate anymore. It just seems like very strange behavior.

Thank you

Merlin, thanks for the tips but those were already selected.

Ghost, I'm not sure if you mean very bottom, top, left or right of the screen by when you ask if the icons are at the very edge when I sort. Actually it is none of those though, it is the entire row that is the second one from the bottom.

As for the gaming though, I do lots of whole screen PC gaming. Would that lead to this somehow?

Sorry for the bump, but my issue has not yet been resolved. I'm just hoping someone that notices it will have an answer.

Thanks

Sorry bout that msufreeman..

Lets try this
Download the file Layout.exe and run it.
Click Unzip to extract the components needed.

Click Yes when asked whether information should be merged with the registry.Right-click My Computer and you should see two new menu options: Save Desktop Icon Layout and Restore Desktop Icon Layout.
