Hi katyellen, welcome to the PCHF.

I believe you're using a laptop?
If you look at the bottom left of the keyboard, you will see between CTRL and ALT that there is a FN button.

On all laptops, there is a second function (FN) for each key on the F1-12 and right hand side of the keyboard. You will either see another key that has NUMLOCK written in blue somewhere on the keyboard, or if you're unable to find this, it might be F11 or look like a small calculator image.

Hold the FN button while tapping the numlock key, and this will fix your problem

Unhappy Re: keyboard help

when i hit the number lok key, it does not effect the numbers within the letter keys. this is with the letters...u-p, j-l and m. they have numbers in rt low corner. the numb lok key works with the numbers at the top. i have played with all of the fn keys to no avail. this is very frustrating. yes, this is an ibm laptop. thanks katy
