Default speech recogintion

hi folks
first time out , i need some help with speech recogintion, when i get to control panel / speech , it opens but take about 4 mins when i click configure microphone or train proflie the pc not responding ,then it locks up can anyone help

Can you start by telling us;

Windows version and service pack level
PC make and model
Amount of RAM

...and anything else you think may help us to help you.

Thanks the windows version is office xp for students & teachers 2002
service pack 2 the SRE is microsoft english A R S version 5
head phones logitech USB
Advent T9305 pentium 4 ht 3.0 GHz 250GB hard drive 1024 RAM

head set passed test in sound file

when i open speech in control panel it takes approx 4 mins
when i click configure mic or train profile pc starts to freeze
