Default [Resolved] XP Stopped working

Hi
I hope someone can help.
I bought a new computer, moved the old one from my desk to the floor after shutting it down and unplugging everything. When I hooked it back up then powered up, the monitor went into a sleep mode after the Windows XP screen loaded. I've tried F8, F12 and delete keys during startup, to no avail. I can't even start in Safe mode.
Any suggestions please?

I need the quickbooks info on the old computer for my business!

Hello mred, welcome to PCHF.

Does the light come on the base unit of the PC, and do you hear the usual beep when your PC starts?

The computer starts with all the beeps, the screen shows the snapshot of bios and then windows XP goes thru the loading process, showing it on the screen. You know the "Windows XP with the blue bar going left to right". As soon as it's ready to go to the desktop, the screen goes black, and the light at the power button on the screen flashes green only. It's like the screen goes to sleep, you can hear it power down. No matter what I've tried, without changing anything in bios, the desktop will not appear.
Thanks for a quick reply, I'll be at this awhile....

Right so the Windows XP loading screen is the last thing you see right?

Do you have speakers connected, and if so, do you hear the Windows welcome sound (when the desktop would normally appear)? Or does the PC switch off too?

The Windows screen is the last thing I see and the speakers only beep, no Welcome to Windows theme. Neither the PC or the monitor shuts off, the monitor goes black, simliar to when you shut down and turn the monitor off last.
The old PC is headed for the recycle bin if I can find a way to extract the Quickbooks files I need.
I know it difficult to troubleshoot without it in front of you and I Thank You for any ideas you may have

No prob's. Just one more question before we try anything. On the last session when the PC was working, are you aware of anything that was installed or un-installed that may have caused this problem?

I did not add any software nor did I uninstall anything. I simply turned the machine off, moved it 4 feet and hooked it up again with this problem arising.
My guess is, it is the plug in for the monitor that is attached to the motherboard, it is 4 years old!
I'll wait for help before getting angry!

Thanks again
