Default [Answered] Can't make the computer work again!!

I upgraded the major components in my PC recently and gave my old parts to my brother. He essentially has my old computer the only difference is the PSU and optical drive. Anyway, I put those new parts in it and went to boot it, expecting everything to run smoothly, but I instead got a BSOD. Since that problem I have tried to repair the windows install on the drive, delete it and make a new install, and I have even tried a blank HDD and tried a clean install but I keep getting errors.

I start the computer up and boot from disk. All the files load and then I get to the screen where it says press ENTER to set up, r to repair..etc. I select set up windows xp. The screen the says please wait for a bit, then I get an error. I've seen IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

I know the irql one can have something to do with a hot CPU or bad RAM but the CPU is running fine when I check its temp in the BIOS and the RAM hasn't ever given me trouble before.

What could be causing these problems? I need help ASAP, this computer was supposed to be a christmas present for my brother ><

Hey Brizzle,

Actually, at a setup level, there is only three things that can cause these issues:

1) Upgrading from a previous version of Windows
Since your running a clean install of Windows, I think we can rule this out?

2) Incompatible Hardware
You said that the only hardware changes are the Power Supply and Optical Drive. I can't see these two causing those problems, but it might be worth removing the optical drive. Make sure you have enough power for all your hardware using eXtreme Power Supply Calculator v2.5 (click goLite).

3) Faulty RAM (as you mentioned)
I believe this to be your most likely problem. Don't know what may have happened during the transfer between PC's, possibly handled? (static).

- If you have a floppy drive and a spare floppy disk, please download: http://www.memtest86.com/memtest34a.zip
- If not, please download, unzip and use nero to burn this image: http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.4a.iso.zip

Reboot with the CD/Floppy in the drive and start memtest. This will ensure there are no problems in memory.

Ok, I'm running the memory test now. The problem is...I don't know what I'm looking for, I don't know how to read the results I guess is what I'm saying.

Thats what I'm seeing. I don't know if anything there is abnormal. The RAM I'm testing is OCZ DDR 400 in 2 512mb sticks. I don't know if thats relevant, but thats their rated speed.

No prob's Briz, did you try the other suggestions related to your other components? And, apart from the two OCZ's, there is no other RAM onboard?
