Default system restore

hi all
i,m a newbie and having a bit of trouble which i,m hoping someone can help me with
when i open up my system restore all i,m getting is the blank box.
also when i start>>search and look for files and stuff well i still get the wee dog there but i cant search for anything as thats blank too
anyway i was speaking to a guy who told me to install tune-up utillities and i could go in and search the stuff i have deleted from my recycle bin but i would need the name of the file.
has this happened to anyone before and has anyone got the file name
much apprecated

Sorry for the delay in replying to your topic.

So if you go to:
Start - All programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore

What happens? Can you take a screenshot and upload it to the forum please.

hi cowburn
when i go to system restore i get the system box up but it is blank
then when i press start> search the wee dog is there but no text to ask wot i,m looking for

Hello and Welcome to PCHF

Try this first:
Several dialog boxes are blank



You can try running the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD.
