Default [Answered] Windows XP restore questions

My hard drive is nearing being filled up and is very unorganized. I want to re-install Windows XP using the system recovery cds that came with my pc. When I try to restore my PC with the system recovery cds it say my partition is too small. Some how, i dont know how, my hard drive got split into 2 partitions and the C drive is only 15 gigs. I was also thinking about buying a new and bigger hard drive. If i did get a new HDD would the system recovery disks work on it?

Hi If the hard drive is near full it won't have enough room to do a repair install. Are you trying to wipe the hard drive and reload windows?

Yes you could do it on a new hard drive and install your old one as a slave drive is this what your after? Explain what you would like the end result to be.

Well if I were to remove my hard drive right now and then hook up the new hard drive, the system restore disks would work, right. Because I thought there might be some problem about using the disks with a HDD that the pc didnt come with. I don't intend on using the HDD i have right now as a slave would that cause a problem if i didnt?

Yes that should work if the drive is brand new and never used and in working condition. this would be the best way to do it remove your existing hard drive and fit a new one then install the windows CD on the new hard drive once the PC is all up and going you can change the jumper on you existing hard drive and set it as a slave drive(Setting ussually on the top of the hard drive) put it back in the PC. Done .

P.S or if you like you can leave the second hard drive and not install it
