Default System hanging advice needed please

Hi All

Thanks for taking the time with my problem.

i have recently updated my pc to this spec.

amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 3800 processor
1.75 gig ram mixture of 1 gig + 512mb + 256 mb sticks all ddr 400
microsoft xp home edition service pack 2

2 x sata drives running raid 0

internal ethernet card
internal wireless network

Saphire Radeon hd 3850 graphics card running pci express x 16

motherboard is a Asrock 939 sata 2

heres the problem

i get intermittant system hanging, it never happens at the same time / point and never during a particular program or event that i can pinpoint.

sometimes the computer will hang while booting, after i have picked my name from the initial welcome menu, othertimes it runs for a while before hanging.

by hanging i mean nothing works, i have to press the reset button.

i have tried to run the pc in " Safe Mode" but it also hangs.

i can play games on the pc, normally the system does not freeze once a game has loaded.

i use Norton antivirus software which tells me it is up to date and scan come up with nothing, i have also done a complete reinstall of xp on a new partition.

Putting all the old parts back into the computer did not help and i got the same error.

i have tried to look at the services but i dont understand what its trying to tell me!

really would appreciate your help.

thanks in advance!!!!!!

i am unable to run super spyware as i dont have privilidges, even as administrator.

Do you have adequate cooling? The cooling system of your PC is very important and most cases only come with 1 80MM fan which just doesn't cut it.

Hi welcome to PCHF From looking at the mix of RAM it could be a compatability problem with the RAM try running just the 1GB stick and see if the PC reacts the same way.
