Hello to everyone on the board,

I have a pc which uses windows xp, tonight I attempted to install four different games and each time it came up with an error saying that the install wizard could not run due to the 'font size' being set to 'large'. It advised to fix the problem by resetting the font size to small. However I followed the instructions to do this, going into the control panel and choosing display options and then choosing 'font size' option in the 'appearance' tab, only to find that there are only three font sizes available, normal, large and extra large, and small was not even an option. This problem occured on four seperate games with the same result, however on the fifth game it worked. I tried the other four again but the same problem keeps occuring. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

When they tell you to set your font size to Small, they probably mean Normal. Try setting your font size to Normal.

Thanks for your reply, yes I have tried to do that restarting the pc afterwards, and then tried it with the other two font sizes all of which with the same result.

The games are not recent but not that old - one was out in 2005 and the oldest one was out in 1999. The one thing I did wonder was that on the back of some of these games the system requirements are for Windows 95 / 98, could that have anything to do with it do you think, as the pc runs XP?

Some games from that era are known not to work with XP, unfortunately. You should be able to go to the game manufacturer's website and see if there is a patch or other solution to this problem, as many of those games have had such things happen. Usually you should be allowed to at least install them, but try contacting the manufacturer.

What 4 games are they? I'll try and find some information for you.

Thank you so much for your replies, I have looked into using a patch for one of the games - Theme Park World, however it says on the website that you have to install the game first and the patch is to stop the game crashing once its installed. Would it be worth downloading the patch anyway and seeing what happens?

The games i've tried are - Theme Park World, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Soul Reaver 2, and The Nomad Soul - all four of these have the same error message when I try to install. Weirdly one other game which I tried - 'Spellforce' did install with no problems.


Thanks for your help, I've asked a few people I know who have more knowledge than Ido about pcs but they all seem to be stumped. The only thing people have said is that it may be a compatability issue with WindowsXP, but I would have thought that if that were the case this issue would have come up for lots of people and the games manufacturers would have mentioned it on their sites in the section that deals with incompatabilities and patches etc?
