Question Restoring files

My computer recntly crashed, so I have to reinstall the windows software (and everything else)

Is it possible that my files (word doc/ pdf etc) are still somewhere on my computer?

Is there anyway to access them?

Thanks

Heya,

Did you do a format? What it a full format or a "quick" format?

Full format - you most likely won't be able to recover anything unless you send your drive to very specialized places that will charge about 100$ per GB recovered.

If you did a "Quick" format you can most likely recover files with free/trial recovery software

I am not entirely sure which format type. I had to put the XP cd in again, (i did not take anything off first) but i have had to re-install all my software etc.

Can you suggest recovery software - it might help.

Thanks

Not sure if it was a repair install, i just put the xp cd into the drive to run it again.

Yes i am using the same username.

I have tried doing searches, of the whole system and hidden files but it hasn't come up.
