Exclamation [Resolved] Reformatted Computer, Installed Windows XP

Hi. Yesterday I went to a computer fair and purchased windows XP. Bringing it home, I tried to install it onto my computer given by someone (therefore I do not know the specs) which had Windows Vista Beta edition installed on it.

After booting the Installation CD, setup ran smoothly until it said "Insert CD with Windows XP Service Pack 2". I did so, and pressed "OK". Then an error came out saying "Access is denied, setup will not continue". Then the computer rebooted. This went on a couple of times, and my dad and I decided to use the "Reformat C Drive" function at the installation. Everything went smoothly, installation completed. And I was quite pleased. Until I found out that I was stuck with a computer that only had 4 Bit Colour available and 640 X 480 Resolution.

Next I found out I didnt have a video card NOR a audio card, or at least I think so. Therefore I cant find a driver to run because I dont know what card I have. Can anyone think of a solution to find the card(s) and driver(s) or any other solution to solve my low resolution and colour problem? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to PCHF!

Give this a shot. I haven't used it yet but I love driverguide.com as a site.

Thanks,
Adam

The exact 3 drivers that are unknown are my video, audio and some other driver, so that's another problem.

What did the scan return? Nothing...? What kind of computer is it. The manufacturer and model would be magnificent.

Thanks,
Adam

It said that 3 drivers were unrecognisable and those three were the VGA control, Ethernet Controller and Multimedia Audio Controller. My computer is from Compaq, but the model I am not sure.

But a good point from my dad, the sound and picture worked fine and well before the reformatting on windows vista so that proves that I have a working video and sound card but just not the drivers. What my computer needs is drivers
