Angry [Fixed] It just can't be easy.......

Okay, first off, sorry if my post seems a little coarse but I am p----ed off right now, I got myself a new motherboard for my computer, a Gigabyte GA-k8NS Pro, and as per Microsoft's article, I ran XP Repair Install to replace my drivers....well, if it were only that easy, after a little while at the install screen, when it says "27 Minutes Remaining" I get Copy Error messages for EVERY file, if I click browse I can see the file there on the CD but it will not accept my clicking on it, I tried this (again from Microsoft) to no avail:
Press Shift+F10 for command prompt
Type CopyD:\i386\filename.dl_%systemroot%\$win_nt$.~\i3 86
but that results with: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"
I would ask Microsoft Tech Support but since Bill Gates is sooooooo hard up for cash, they charge big bucks for that, heaven forbid they should stand by there products right?
I swear, Linux is looking very good right now

Anyway, all I want is to have my desktop computer work normally, can someone here help solve this problem so I can move onto the next errors that await me?
If it is absolutely necessary I can reformat my C drive but I'd rather not so I don't lose my files, I have most backed up on a spare HD but not all.

Have you tried unplugging 1 of the dvd/cd drives then do the install also disable USB in bios and unplug all unneeded devices then try the repair install.

I just tried that, now it just stops at "Searching for previous versions of Windows" and then the PC restarts. I tried switching my slave and master drives around (Master having my files and slave being blank) and installing XP fresh on the slave drive (after making it the master), that failed as well, I know that the memory, processor, and board are good because the latter two are new and the memory was pulled from a working computer and it is compatible with my board.
My Hard drives are:
160GB Seagate (has my files on it)
82GB Hitachi (Blank)
I also have some files backed up on a 20GB Quantum Fireball HD
I don't know if the Hitachi drive is formatted but the other two are NTFS. I'm also working with these specs:
Motherboard: GA-K8NS Pro
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200 (2.2ghz I believe?)
RAM: 512mb (2x 256mb DDR) or 3gb (3x 1gb DDR) (I'm trying both, I know the 512 works for sure but whatever gets me to a working PC is fine)
GFX Card: NVIDIA FX5200 128mb
