Default [Resolved] International Language files

I recently got some stuff which are in Japanese. My computer didn't have Japanese languages installed, so I looked around and found some people tell you to install Eastern Language files via the XP CD. I got my XP CD and installed the files like it said in the windows website, but the texts are still the same (in weird characters such as a verticle line, question marks, and boxes from time to time).

What I basically did was go into Control Panel>Regional and Languages Options

I clicked on the Languages tab and checked "Install files for East Asian languages", and clicked Apply. After installation, I restarted the comp.

Was there something I did wrong?

I just followed the instructions from the website. My options were practically the same; everything was there already, and even though I didn't add the thing about the keyboard, the option was installed already. The EN doesn't appear on my screen, and the writing still doesn't appear as Japanese characters. Is it my comp? ><

If your system has suffered from viruses and/or spyware in the past or if you have had major crashes and issues your system files may be pooched. You can try a Repair Install or you might format and put a fresh installation on it.
If you chose to do either of those you probably should back up your information before proceeding.

Perform a Repair Installation

Before you perform a repair installation of Windows XP, you must uninstall Internet Explorer 7if it is installed. If you do not uninstall Internet Explorer 7 in this situation, Internet Explorer will no longer work after the repair installation is completed. Specifically, the repair installation does not restore earlier versions of the files in the Program Files\Internet Explorer folder. Therefore, the Internet Explorer 7 files will be incompatible with the Internet Explorer 6 files that are installed in the Windows\System32 folder.
How to perform a repair installation of Windows XP if Internet Explorer 7 is installed

Thanks for your reply again.

I have a question about repairing the installation, what exactly does it repair, and will it alter the way my computer works??
