Default Windows will not start up!

A few nights ago I turned off my computer by holding down the power button rather than shutting down properly (don't ask me why, I dont know myself!), the next time I tried to turn it on it appeared to start up normally until the loading screen for Windows appeared. At this point a screen appeared informing me that Windows failed to open and giving me an option of opening in Safe Mode, using last settings that worked or opening normally. I have tried all of the options and none of them, including Safe Mode, work. All that happens is that the loading screen for Windows appears again, fails and returns to the same screen.

I installed some RAM about a week ago but it had been running fine since then so I can only assume that it has been caused by my incorrect shutdown. That is the only thing I can think of which I had done differently.

Any thoughts?

Do you have another stick of Ram to try.If you do remove that stick and replace it with the other stick. If it works its probably bad Ram(edit but ram would of failed before that.).Also if that doesnt work you can do a repair install.

I will try taking out the RAM as you suggest, there are two sticks in there now so I will just leave the original. Why would dodgy RAM have affected Windows specifically?

Does a repair install require a copy of XP, as it came preinstalled and I dont have it on disc!
