My screen has been freezing then going to a black screen for a second or two. After a blank screen for a second or two it comes back. I'm thinking it mght be the video card I have a Nvidia G-Force. The problem seems to happen when the laptop has been in use for an extended amount of time. I never had this problem till recently, but it won't go away. Unit is 3 years old Toshiba Tecra M2.

Can you download Speedfan.It sounds like Temperature issues.

I installed SpeedFan but I'm not sure what I should be looking at or doing with the program. When I put the fan speed to 100% i don't see a response.

Well I got the program working and notice my idle temp around a normal 40c and when my problem appears and my PC starts running slow is 50c. 50c is not that hot so it concerns me that my laptop starts to shutter at that temp. Any ideas? My PC runs fine 47c and below.

Well 50C is around erm lemme check 122F.So that might be the problem.Is the fan running on your laptop?
