Default cant find operating system

I'm having problems trying to install windows:

I tried a fresh reinstall (delected the hard drive) however when it came to the format part it failed to format.

now when i restarted the PC it comes up "unable to detect operating system'
- which i would expect however when i put the cd in it wont boot from it

ive gone into the bios - it shows it has detected both the hard drive and dvd drive correctly.
i have chosen it to boot from dvd correcly (have even disabled the hard drive) however it does not want to boot.

What can i do - other boot option is a floppy drive - should i be trying a boot disk here if so which one (XP used to be installed) or should i try fdisk or something else

if anyone has a fix it would be great,

thanks a million,

sisco

From what you've written I'd suggest the CD you are using is not a bootabl CD or is defective. Try it on another PC and see if it boots........

The correct option is to boot from the optical device but why did you disable the hard drive?
Where are the operating system files going to go?

Please give more concise information as to your problem.

The hard drive is not disabled it was simply disabled once to ensure that the computer was at least attempting to boot from CD

Concise information:

Operating system has been removed from the hard drive
computer will not boot from bootable cd at startup even though it has been addressed to to do so in the bios
bios shows that it has detected the cd drive correctly
bootable disk used has been verified to be operating correctly
At startup computer simply states 'unable to detect operating system'

Anyone have any ideas on this

thanks in Advance,

sisco

Your pc will say unable to find operating system as there isn't one as you have freely admitted.
"Operating system has been removed from the hard drive"

You will have to install the operating system again.

If you have set the cdrom to first boot and it cannot find the boot/install files on that disk then either the disk is shot or your cdrom is.
