First of all i had absolutely no problems with my usb ports before and one day suddenly i can't seem to use more than 3 usb ports at a time. When ever i plug in the 4th usb device, whatever it maybe, every device on the usb ports freezes. The computer is fine it self but the devices freeze. Another observation that i made is with my saitek keyboard ( can turn on backlight for the keyboard with a button press). When i have 3 devices plugged in it works fine but if i turn on the light on the keyboard everything freezes as well. I have all the latest drivers for everything. i've tried plugging usb devices in all different ports. I've even resorted to reformatting my harddrive. Nothing seems to be working. Things that i did before this happened was add 2 gigs of ocz ram and installed drivers for ps3 controller to allow it to work on pc. I think this happened right after i plugged in the ps3 controller to pc. It would make that sound it makes when u connect a usb device and then it would make a sound it makes when u disconnect usb device. It continously made this sound (connect/disconnect sound) on and on until i unplugged it which was a while later. I believe this is when the usb problem started to happen.
I know this is long and may sound weird but if any one could help me out.
Thanks alot.

Hello absolut3, welcome to PCHF.
From what you have described here, those symptoms are a result of being overloaded, using too much power. Not sure what power supply you have there, but there is also a limited amount of power which is supplied to each USB Root Hub. The maximum power output of a Root Hub is only 500 milliamps. In both cases, the solution would be to purchase a powered USB hub: Amazon.com: Belkin USB 4-Port Hub with 6FT Cable/Power Supply: Electronics |
