Maybe I shouldn't have looked, but I received quite a shock when I looked at the system event log today and discovered hundreds of red events, all showing the same DCOM lauch error (jpeg of the report attached).
To be honest I haven't noticed any performance issues, but I'm fearful this may be an uninvited intruder. AVG and Spybot haven't reported anything unusual.
Anyone know what this is, and if it needs to be fixed.
cheers
Al

Thank you for the suggestion.
I checked the services (as suggested in the Microsoft Security Bulletin) and Help and Support is set to automatic. I downloaded the recommneded security update but it won't install as it is for SP1 and the machine already has SP2 installed. I will monitor the system event log and report back later. Just in case it is related, the attached warning is also appearing quite regularly in the application event logs. I thought it might be related to the KVM switch I use to connect the screen to another machine. Al |

Not intentionally. The machine with the error isn't part of a network, just connected to a broadband router. The second machine is a completely clean machine, no internet connection at all.
